How long did the fallen angels live on Earth before the great flood occurred?

“1. And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto them beautiful and comely daughters. 2. And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: ‘Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men and beget us children.’ 3. And Semjâzâ, who was their leader, said unto them: ‘I fear ye will not indeed agree to do this deed, and I alone shall have to pay the penalty of a great sin.’ 4. And they all answered him and said: ‘Let us all swear an oath, and all bind ourselves by mutual imprecations not to abandon this plan but to do this thing.’ 5. Then sware they all together and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it. 6. And they were in all two hundred; who descended ⌈in the days⌉ of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon, and they called it Mount Hermon, because they had sworn and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it. 7. The purpose of this writing is to review the length of time from when the angels came down from heaven and took human wives until the great flood or deluge.

• When Jared was 162 years old, he begat his son Enoch. (Genesis 5:18)
• When Enoch was 65 years old, he begat his son Methuselah. (Genesis 5:21)
• When Methuselah was 187 years old, he begat Lamech. (Genesis 5:25)
• When Lamech was 182 years old, he begat his son Noah. (Genesis 5:28,29)
• Noah was 600 years old when the flood occurred on the Earth. (Genesis 7:6)

Noah’s age was 600 years when the great flood, or deluge, came upon the Earth. This event was commanded by the Almighty to destroy all humans because of the 200 spiritual angels who had children with human women and taught them things which were evil. The God of heaven found the angels’ behaviors, and their offspring, evil. (Genesis 6:1-7) Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives, a total of eight people, were the only humans saved from the great flood. (1 Peter 3:19-20)

Angels took wives, in the “days of Jared” according to the writing of Enoch 6:6. It was during the days of Jared when the angels came down from heaven between the day Jared was born and the day of Enoch’s birth. This means a 162 span of years for “the days of Jared”. Otherwise, after Enoch was born, this would be called the days of Enoch.

Making a hypothetical assumption of when the angels came down from heaven to be at a time of Jared’s life before the birth of Enoch, we can estimate the number of years the bad angels and their offspring were permitted to exist until the great flood, or deluge, came upon the Earth. 

• 0 to 162 years of Jared until he begat Enoch
• 65 years of Enoch until he begat Methuselah
• 187 years of Methuselah until he begat Lamech
• 182 years of Lamech until he begat Noah
• 600 years from the birth of Noah until the great flood, or deluge

It was approximately 1,034 to 1,196 years from the fallen angels who left heaven until the great flood, or deluge, came upon the whole Earth.

The reason that this is of interest is because it helps explain the plausibility of how architectural wonders that seem impossible and unexplainable could have been built by early civilizations. Around the earth remains evidence of ancient civilizations with structures and complex societies which today seem unusual and difficult to explain their origins to modern-day experts. The fallen angels and their unapproved children of half-spirit and half-human provided the intellectual ability to build sites which modern humans find wondrous and challenge historians and archaeologists.

Let’s Calculate the Number of Years from Adam to the Flood

• Adam to the birth of Seth = 130 years
• Seth to the birth of Enosh = 105 years
• Enosh to the birth of Cainan = 90 years
• Cainan to the birth of Malhalalel = 70 years
• Mahalalel to the birth of Jared = 65 years
• Jared to Enoch = 162 years
• Enoch to Methuselah = 65 years
• Methuselah to Lamech = 187 years
• Lamech to Noah = 182 years
• Noah to the flood = 600 years

The total number of years from the creation of Adam to the flood was 1,656 years. Adam lived 930 years and was alive during the time of the angels’ giant half-human and half-spirit children.

The reason we share these details is to have a better understanding of human history. The righteousness of Enoch was recognized by God at this early time of human existence and is something which Christians today can also recognize as they follow Jesus Christ’s ultimate and perfect example of righteousness.

“And I, Enoch, was blessing the Lord of majesty and the King of the ages, and lo! the Watchers called me – Enoch the scribe – and said to me: ‘Enoch, thou scribe of righteousness, go to the Watchers of the heaven who have left the high heaven, the holy eternal place…”  (Enoch 12:3,4)
